Retriever Training For All Breeds

Not Just for Labs

I focus on Labs because that’s what I own, train, love, and for the most part know how they will react in given situations. I believe much of my advice will work with any retriever breed with the variable being the personality traits and temperament of each breed. For example, conventional wisdom is that Chesapeake Bay Retrievers are hard-charging but hard-headed. So those characteristics need to be taken into consideration with your training techniques and expectations.

Golden Retrievers, Curly and Flat Coat Retrievers, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers, etc. can all benefit from many LabsnDucks concepts and approaches as long as you understand the specific breed. For the most part, you can substitute ‘lab’ in this website with the breed of your dog and have the lessons remain applicable. But whatever breed of dog you get/own, do your homework. Learn all you can about the breed before you buy the dog and certainly before you train him to hunt.
